Stan Durden - Partner

Mr. Durden returned to practice law in Athens in 1993. Previously, he had practiced in Athens from 1972 to 1978 when he accepted the Public Defender's job representing indigent clients in Banks, Barrow and Jackson Counties.

After successfully representing his clients for five years, he left the practice of law to attend Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Before graduation, he accepted the position of Pastor at Emmanuel Church in Decatur, Illinois. While pastoring, he finished his Master of Divinity degree and only left this position in the fall of 1987 due to the ill health of his mother. After his mother's death, he returned to law practice in Atlanta, Georgia for five years prior to returning to Athens, Georgia. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Durden has concentrated his legal endeavors in the area of trial practice. His professional associations have included the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, and Christian Legal Society. His community involvement has included membership on the Board of Directors in a local chapter of Little League, volunteer assistant coach of Junior High baseball and basketball in Illinois, volunteer assistant in high school baseball in Illinois, coach of Little League, Senior League and Youth Baseball in Athens, Georgia. He is a teacher/speaker at Bible Conferences and Bible studies.

Mr. Durden is married to Pamela Poole of Atlanta, Georgia and is the proud father of five children from a blended family. He and his wife are involved in the Walk to Emmaus community and they are active members of Grace Fellowship Church of God.

Jon Mills - Partner

A native Floridian, Mr. Mills grew up in a suburb just north of Orlando, Florida. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a bachelor's degree in three years, majoring in Business Management and graduating magna cum laude honors. While at UCF, Mr. Mills was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the national Business Honor Society, and the Golden Key International Honour Society.

After graduating from the University of Central Florida, he continued working in the computer industry before starting law school at the University of Georgia. He graduated with a juris doctorate degree in 2006. During law school, Mr. Mills was very involved in numerous on-campus organizations devoted to ensuring fairness and equality in the legal system and also provided income tax assistance to the underprivileged through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program which he helped direct.

Mr. Mills has worked with the firm for over six years. Since being admitted to the bar, Mr. Mills has successfully litigated numerous criminal and civil cases and has been committed to faithfully serving our clients. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Mills has primarily concentrated his legal endeavors in the area of trial practice, focusing on domestic litigation and criminal defense. Mr. Mills is committed to the Athens community and he believes in giving back. He is involved in various community organizations and regularly assists clients through Diakonia Christian Legal Services. Mr. Mills is married to the former Julia Wilson of Athens, Georgia. They reside in Athens and are faithful members of Athens First United Methodist Church. They are involved with the High Point Sunday School group and Mr. Mills is the church’s Missions Committee Chairperson.

H. Scott Lowry - Associate

A native of Virginia, Mr. Lowry grew up in a suburb just north of Richmond, Virginia. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a bachelor's degree, majoring in both Economics and History and graduating with Distinction.

After graduating from the University of Virginia, Mr. Lowry attended law school at the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Georgia Law Review. He graduated with a juris doctorate degree in 2007 with magna cum laude honors and was elected to The Order of the Coif.

Prior to joining Durden & Mills, PC, Mr. Lowry worked with a large law firm in Atlanta focusing on business organizations, real estate transactions and tax isssues. More recently, Mr. Lowry has expanded his practice areas to include general litigation, business litigation and estate planning matters as well. When not at the office, Mr. Lowry enjoys fishing, playing guitar and coaching youth basketball.
